Next, let’s talk about automation. Automation can reduce insider threat by reducing the amount of manual work needed and thereby reducing the opportunity for error.  

Take for example one of the most common and tedious tasks in the world of IT: Offboarding.  

Offboarding is a prime example to look at because of the stakes and the effort.  Offboarding one employee takes an average of 5 hours according to a 2023 survey– and any error can result in access to critical systems to a potentially disgruntled former employee. It's no surprise that 76% of IT leaders agree that offboarding is a significant security threat​. 

One good way to reduce the risks of offboarding errors is to add in automation, so there are less opportunities for human error in any process. This is especially important when it comes to Rescue since access to Rescue could mean access to critical devices or servers.
